Medical grade soft silicone elastomers used in foot care & advanced orthotics
Fragile limbs like diabetic feet can suffer irreversible damage if not handled properly. Modern insoles and orthoses typically use soft silicone elastomers (RTVs) to absorb part of the body weight or pressure and prevent further damage to the limb. In the field of foot care, they can also be used to make soft inlays and custom podology inserts.
With the concerns of specialists and patients in mind, Elkem Silicones has developed a full range of medical grade RTVs. Their superior biocompatibility according to ISO 10993 reduces occurrence of irritation and sensitization on fragile skin. The specific viscoelastic properties of silicone ensure sufficient shock and weight absorption while maintaining enough rebound. In addition, Silbione™ RTVs are recognized for their outstanding compromise between low viscosity and high mechanical performances, which makes the manufacturing of insoles and orthoses quick and efficient while preserving a high durability of the end product.
Our range of Silbione™ RTV includes:
- Kneadable 2-component pastes for custom podology inserts
- Extremely soft materials (down to 11 durometer in Shore 00) for sensitive limb parts
- Colored grades to differentiate the sole inlays
- Low tack surface grades for easy demolding and increased comfort
